Land Claiming

Protecting your base on SMP. If you build without claiming, nothing stops another player breaking it or emptying your chests, and staff cannot always put it back. Claiming takes about thirty seconds, so do it before you do anything else.

Why claim

Inside your claim, other players cannot break or place blocks, open chests, use your furnaces, or take from your farms. Outside it, they can.

Griefing outside a claim is still against the rules and we do act on it, but a claim prevents the problem rather than punishing it afterwards. Rolling back damage depends on logs that do not go back forever, so prevention is far better than a report.

Getting started

Everything runs through a menu, so you do not need to memorise commands.

  1. Stand where you want your base.

  2. Run /lands menu and create a land, or use /lands create <name> if you prefer typing.

  3. Claim the chunk you are standing in.

  4. Claim the chunks around it until your build is covered.

Chunks are 16 by 16 blocks and are fixed to the world grid, so you claim whole chunks rather than drawing a custom box. Press F3 and G to see chunk borders in game, which makes it obvious what you are actually claiming.

Knowing your limits

You do not get unlimited chunks. /lands menu shows how many you have used, how many you have left, and your current land level.

Check this before you start a big build, since running out halfway through a base is annoying to fix.

Levels

Your land has a level, and each level grants extra chunks on top of your starting allowance. Levels come from the land's bank balance, which is money you deposit into the land itself. It is not based on playtime.

  • Level 2, Village. 7,500 banked. Grants 1 extra chunk.

  • Level 3. 17,000 banked. Grants 2 extra chunks.

  • Level 4. 30,000 banked. Grants 4 extra chunks.

  • Level 5. 55,000 banked. Grants 8 extra chunks.

Money you deposit stays in the land bank, so it is not spent as such. Deposit through the menu.

Each level also raises your upkeep percentage: 5% at level 2, 10% at level 3, 25% at level 4, and 30% at level 5. Read the upkeep section below before you rush to level up.

Upkeep

Claiming a chunk is free, but keeping it is not. Every 7 days at 11pm, each land pays 3 per chunk.

So a 10 chunk land pays 30 a week. Higher land levels add a percentage on top of that.

You will not lose your claims if you cannot pay. Chunks are never automatically unclaimed for missed upkeep on this server. Worst case the payment fails and your land carries on exactly as it was.

A few details worth knowing:

  • If the land bank is short, the money comes out of the land owner's personal balance instead.

  • New lands are exempt for their first 2 days, so you have time to get on your feet.

  • You get warned 2 days before a payment you cannot afford, with reminders every hour after that. Those reminders mean top up the land bank, not panic.

Keeping a float in the land bank is the simplest way to never think about this again. Deposit through /lands menu.

Taxes

Land owners can set a tax that trusted members pay into the land bank on the same cycle. This is optional and off unless the owner sets it.

If you join someone else's land, it is worth asking whether there is a tax, so the deduction is not a surprise.

Letting friends in

Trusting someone gives them access to your whole land.

  • /lands trust <player> adds them.

  • /lands untrust <player> removes them.

Trust is not partial. A trusted player can open every chest and break every block in your claim, so only trust people you actually trust. If you want someone to have limited access, use the roles section of the menu to control exactly what they can do.

Working together

If you and your friends want one shared base, one person creates the land and trusts the others rather than everyone claiming separately. That pools the chunks into a single claim instead of splitting them across several small ones.

For larger groups, several lands can join into a nation, which grants a substantial chunk bonus but needs a large combined balance to reach. Worth knowing it exists, though most players will never need it.

Common problems

"I cannot claim here." Usually you have run out of chunks, or the chunk touches someone else's claim. Claims cannot overlap and you cannot claim right up against another land.

"I cannot build in my friend's base." You need to be trusted by them. Being in the same Discord or team does nothing on its own.

"Someone took my stuff." If it was inside your claim, open a ticket, since that should not have been possible and staff will look at logs. If it was outside your claim, we will look, but recovery is not guaranteed.

"I claimed the wrong chunk." Unclaim it through the menu and claim the right one. Unclaiming returns the chunk to your allowance.

Before you leave the page

Claim your base. Not later, now. Almost every lost items ticket we get comes from someone who was going to claim it tomorrow.
