FTB Skies 2: Aero
Our modded server runs FTB Skies 2: Aero. It is completely separate from SMP, with its own world, inventory, and progression. Nothing carries over between them.
Quick facts
Address:
modded.playtsc.comModpack: FTB Skies 2: Aero
Pack version: always the latest release
Loader: NeoForge
Minecraft version: 1.21.11
Recommended RAM: 6 GB.
Installing the pack
The easiest route is the FTB App, since it handles the loader and the version for you.
Download the FTB App from feed-the-beast.com and install it.
Search for FTB Skies 2: Aero in the browse tab.
Install the newest version. We always run the latest release of the pack.
Let it download. This takes a while, so leave it running.
Open the instance settings and give it {{ amount }} of RAM. The default is usually too low and the pack will crash or stutter without more.
CurseForge also works if you already use it, and the pack is on there under the same name. Same rule applies about matching the version.
Version matching
Your pack version must match the server. This is the single most common reason people cannot connect.
We always run the latest release, so keeping your instance up to date is the right move. If you get a connection error or a mod mismatch screen listing missing or extra mods, the versions have drifted apart.
Updates land on the pack before they land on the server, so there is usually a short gap where a freshly updated client cannot connect yet. If that happens, wait for the update announcement in Discord rather than reinstalling anything. It is normally sorted quickly.
Joining
Launch the pack, then add modded.playtsc.com as a server in the multiplayer menu.
The first join takes noticeably longer than vanilla because the world is generating and the mods are registering. A minute or two on the connecting screen is normal, so give it time before assuming it failed.
Getting started
{{ Write two or three lines here on what the pack actually is and what players do first, since this is where people either get hooked or bounce off. FTB Skies 2 is skyblock based, so the opening moves are quite different to SMP and worth spelling out. }}
The pack has an in game guide, so open your quest book before asking in Discord. Most early questions are answered there.
Teams and claims
FTB packs include their own claiming system, separate from the Lands plugin used on SMP.
Open the map screen and use the claim view to claim chunks.
Chunk loading is separate to claiming. A claimed chunk is protected, a loaded chunk keeps running while you are offline.
To play with friends, make a team and invite them, which shares claims and progression.
Performance
Modded is heavier than vanilla. If it runs badly:
Raise the RAM allocated to the instance, but do not give it more than half your system memory.
Lower render distance before touching anything else. It has the biggest impact by far.
{{ If you allow performance mods beyond what ships with the pack, say so here. If you do not, say that too, since people will ask. }}
Rules
The general rules apply here as they do everywhere.
Modded adds a few things worth stating plainly:
No lag machines. Anything built to deliberately degrade server performance gets removed, and building one is a ban rather than a warning.
Quarries and automation are fine. This is a tech pack, so mining rigs, mob farms, and big automation setups are the point of playing. Build them.
Report duplication bugs, do not use them. Modded packs always have a few. Reporting one is usually rewarded. Using one is a ban.
The line between a lag machine and normal automation is intent. A quarry chewing through chunks is normal play. A contraption whose only purpose is to spam entities or hammer the tick rate is not. If staff spot something causing genuine problems we will talk to you about it before touching anything.
How long the pack lasts
We do not reset the modded world on a schedule, and we do not swap packs on a whim. The world stays up as long as people are playing it.
When activity drops off and the community has finished with a pack, we run a vote in Discord on what to play next. Everyone gets a say, and the result decides the swap. Nothing changes without that vote.
Swapping to a new pack does mean a new world, so your base does not carry over. You will get plenty of warning, since the vote happens first and the swap happens after.
Help
Ask in Discord for quick questions. Open a ticket for lost items, griefing, or anything that needs staff to look at logs.
